Privacy Policy
⚠ Important Warning: Do not use Unpack to annotate sensitive, proprietary, confidential, or copyrighted content. Your text will be sent to a third-party LLM service and may be subject to their data retention policies.
Overview
Unpack is a browser extension that annotates technical or reference-rich text on webpages. This policy describes how we handle your data.
What We Do With Your Text
- Sent to LLM: The text you select or your entire page content is sent to a commercial large language model (LLM) for annotation processing.
- Not Linked to You: Unpack does not read, store, log, or retain your submitted text on any server or database. Your identity is not linked to the text you submit.
- Processing: Your text is processed once and returned as annotations (definitions, etymology, references, etc.).
LLM Provider Privacy
The commercial LLM provider you use (Gemini, GitHub Models, or another) may have their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing their policies to understand how they handle submitted text.
Quota Tracking
To enforce free/paid usage limits, we store:
- A unique identifier for your browser
- Your subscription tier (free or paid)
- If you have a paid subscription, your email and Stripe customer ID
- Timestamps of your annotation requests (without storing the text itself)
This data is stored on our backend and is used only for quota enforcement.
Payment & Billing
Paid subscriptions are processed through Stripe. Your payment information is handled directly by Stripe and is subject to their privacy policy. We do not store payment card details.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as the extension evolves. Changes will be reflected in new extension versions.
